A pathway dedicated to children
A pathway dedicated to children
I am Dr Giovanni Giorgio Rapuzzi, a medical specialist in Paediatric Surgery. I diagnose and treat the main surgical conditions affecting newborns, children and adolescents, with particular attention to minimally invasive surgery, when indicated.
I trained at the University of Genoa and the Istituto Giannina Gaslini, where I completed my specialisation in Paediatric Surgery. I then gained experience in several leading Italian centres, including the Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo, the Sant’Orsola-Malpighi Polyclinic in Bologna and the AOU Maggiore della Carità in Novara. I also attended an advanced training course at IRCAD in Strasbourg, dedicated to minimally invasive surgery.
In 2024, I completed the Level II University Master’s Degree in “Transitional care in surgical patients: from paediatric-adolescent age to adulthood” at the University of Pavia, a programme dedicated to continuity of care for surgical patients as they grow and move from paediatric and adolescent care into adulthood.
In my work, I consider it essential to build a clear and calm relationship with the family. Every pathway begins with listening, a clinical assessment and understandable explanations, to help parents understand when intervention is necessary and when unnecessary alarm can be avoided.
Conditions I treat
What I treat
I assess and treat the main paediatric surgical conditions, both elective and urgent.
My work includes specialist consultations, follow-up guidance, outpatient procedures and procedures performed in the operating room, always based on the child’s age, clinical picture and the real need for treatment.
What guides my work
What guides my work

Research and scientific activity
Alongside my clinical and surgical activity, I have always cultivated an interest in scientific research in paediatric surgery.
I am the author and co-author of publications in indexed international scientific journals, with contributions focused in particular on paediatric thoracic surgery and chest wall malformations. I also collaborate as a reviewer for international scientific journals.
This activity allows me to keep an up-to-date view of developments in paediatric surgery and to integrate experience, scientific exchange and attention to the quality of the care pathway into clinical practice.
